In Memory Of

Merlin

August, 2013

Merlin was found wandering near a busy intersection down the road from Journey's End. A lady picked him up and drove around with him for a couple of hours, asking if anyone knew where he lived. When no one claimed him, Florence offered to take him in. He had probably been abandoned.

Merlin was estimated to be 10-12 years old when he arrived. He had a large tumor on his chest, and soon had surgery to have it removed. The tumor turned out to be cancerous. Luckily it was not an aggressive cancer, but the vets still predicted the cancer would return in around 6 months. He was also found to be deaf, and he was treated for an ear infection and for problems with his teeth.

Merlin was shy at first but got to be more friendly. He was sweet, gentle, and quiet, and got along well with the other animals in the front room. He loved being outside and would lounge around the front patio or the yard. We treated him with laser therapy for his arthritis, and it seemed to help his mobility.

After more than 2 and a half good years with us, the cancer finally returned. One night, he wouldn't come indoors, and Florence had to go searching for him. She took him to the vet, and he unfortunately had to be put down.
