In Memory Of
Josephine was a large hound who was found by a man who lives near the high school in DeLand. He has a lot of land, with fields all around. She just walked out of the woods one day. We assume she had been abandoned. He gave her the name Josephine, but he couldn't keep her, so he arranged for her to come here.
Josephine was hungry and in bad shape when she was found, but she recovered and lived to be very old. She lived for many years in the back kitchen with Daisy and some of the other hounds. Her best friend was Molly, and they often shared a dog bed.
Eventually Josephine developed cancer. She was moved into one of the back rooms so we could monitor her health better. One day she was acting very strangely, and Florence stayed up with her all night. The next day she went to the vet. He thought the cancer may have spread to her brain, and she had to be put down.
